Senator Richard Devlin (D-Tualatin) won the Democratic nomination to Senate District 19 yesterday evening without opposition.  Devlin immediately turned his attention to the General Election, promising to use the election campaign as a chance to make progress on the issues he cares about most.

The Senate Democrats today requested a partial recount in Senate District 20, in the race between Sen. Martha Schrader and Alan Olsen.  Out of nearly 50,000 votes cast, Schrader trails Olsen by only 227 votes, making it the closest state senate race in Oregon.

West Salem resident Jackie Pierce announced today her intention to join the race for Senate District 10 as the Democratic nominee. Pierce is seeking the nomination to replace William Dalton, who announced Wednesday that health issues were forcing him out of the fall election. Pierce expressed her excitement at jumping in and running a tough campaign leading up to November’s election. “I’m running for the Oregon Senate because I believe I’m the best person to get Oregon back on track while protecting the vital services that Oregonians rely on,” said Pierce.

West Salem resident Jackie Pierce was chosen unanimously as the Democratic nominee for Senate District 10 yesterday evening. Precinct committee persons from Marion and Polk Counties chose Pierce to replace William Dalton, the Democratic candidate elected in the May primary. Dalton announced last Wednesday that health issues were forcing him out of the fall election. Pierce expressed her excitement at jumping in and running a tough campaign leading up to November’s election.

The Senate Democratic Leadership Fund (SDLF) today filed a letter of complaint with the Oregon Department of Justice in an attempt to stop illegal automated phone calls made into Senate District 20 on behalf of Republican State Senate candidate Alan Olsen. Several residents who are registered on the Federal Do Not Call registry reported receiving the calls Sunday August 8th. “Campaigns can get messy, but we all have to play by the rules and respect the rights of voters,” said Senate Majority Leader Richard Devlin. “We will not tolerate flagrant disregard of the law.”
